Our History and Future Growth Plan
Creating Transitions (CT) is a Supported Living and Supported Employment educational program. CT's model is based on a similar program located in Eugene, Oregon called the Community Living Program which as been in existence for almost 30 years. CT decided to follow this model due to its high success rate, colloboration with the community and integration model.
Founder and Executive Director, Karla Zimski, relocated to the Denver area 5 years ago and discovered few quality transition services. Additionally, there was a gap in services for students aging out of the public school system and starting adult services. This delay of support causes skill loss and regression, a strain on families/caregivers, and a disconnect from the community for the recent graduate. The goal of CT is to fill this void and create a seemless transition for young adults with excpetionalities into the adult world.
Our current 5 year plan includes starting with one day-program apartment (supporting 10 participants) and community jobsites with a gradual increase to 4 apartments (two day-program and two "overnight" apartments for participants to learn to live independently) supporting up to 50 participants in life skills and supported employment.
